CEMVO is delighted to announce the renewal of its status as an Investor in People. This follows an extensive evaluation of our policies and procedures for recruiting, retaining and developing our staff by Capital Quality Limited, the IiP assessor for the London Region.

In the report issued after the assessment, Kerry Hunn (IiP assessor) says:

CEMVO has a very supportive culture towards its staff and learning anddevelopment is the norm within the organisation. The Senior Management Team (SMT) plays an active role within the development of their people and there is regular daily contact with their staff. Members of the Trustee Board are fully committed to the Organisation and Board members have been brought into CEMVO based upon their knowledge, skills and experience.

CEMVO’s board and senior management team would like to thank all staff for the contribution they have made to the continuing development of CEMVO and their assistance in enabling the organization to carry out its important role in brining our underprivileged communities from the margins to the mainstream of society.

London’s History of Comedy our Project: The Council of Ethnic Minority Voluntary Sector Organisations (CEMVO), the charity with the greatest expertise in raising the issues of British minority ethnic communities, is delighted to have won funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund to deliver their project ‘London’s History of Comedy’. The project will be run as part of the Mayor of London’s ‘Story of London’ festival running throughout June. more
CEMVO is conducting nationwide research to inform its work and assist the government develop its plans to help the voluntary sector through the recession by identifying the issues and possible solutions to improve the environment in which voluntary organisations operate.

On 10 February 2009, the Government pledged £42.5 million to help volunteers, charities and social enterprises during the recession. The action plan for the charitable sector, published by the Cabinet Office, sets out a range of measures to help third sector organisations, charities, and social enterprises to provide advice, support and volunteering.. Survey seeks third sector views on the support they receive locally. The quality of support for the third sector in every local area in England will be measured by a new survey of the sector. The Office of the Third Sector will be asking third sector organisations to share their experiences. This information will help local government to create an environment for a thriving third sector.Please click here for more information
CEMVO’s innovative Capacity Building of East London Mosques Project aimed to strengthen the management capacity of east London based mosques. The project encouraged mosques to network with each other, registered mosques as charities and developed their systems and procedures so that they can deliver improved services for their communities.Please click here for more information
CEMVO’s three year National Health Volunteering Project aimed to recruit and develop the skills and expertise minority ethnic individuals by placing them into health and social care institutions to gain practical work experience. The project also ran a series of workshops within the South West and North West English regions to inform local communities of the health and social care services available.
