Call for Proposals- Projects on Local Employment Development (UK)
The European Commission has issued a call for proposals to identify and share good practices in the field of Local Employment Development (LED) and to provide inputs for the development of future local and regional employment strategies. A key aim of this call for proposals is to develop projects involving older Member States who may be willing to exchange their experiences in developing LEDs with other newer Member States. Applications should focus on the sharing LED practices as experienced in one Member State with at least two other Member States. This call for proposals is open to public authorities or state or semi-state agencies5 at central or regional level from the EU Member States and other participating EEA/EFTA countries as well as non-profit organisations active mainly in the area of employment policy, quality of work or social inclusion may also submit proposals on the condition that they are active at international, national or regional level and submit a proposal in partnership with a public authority or state or semi-state agencies. The total available budget is EUR 1.165.000. The intention is to finance no more than 8 projects from the total budget. Research Funding for SMEs (UK)
The Eurostars Programme, which is the first European funding and support programme to be specifically dedicated to Small and Medium sized Enterprises (SMEs) has announced that the next application deadline is the 21st November 2008. Under Eurostars funding is available to SMEs to undertake research and development in any technological area, but must have a civilian purpose and be aimed at the development of a new product, process or service. Eurostars supports collaborative projects involving at least two participants (legal entities) from two different Eurostars participating countries. In addition, the main participant must be a research-performing SME. Eurostars will support projects that are market-driven and that have a maximum duration of three years. In addition projects must be within two years of completion and ready for launch onto the market. The exception to this rule applies to biomedical or medical projects, where clinical trials must be started within two years of project completion.... http://www.eurostars-eureka.eu/home.do
New Climate Challenge Fund Opens for Applications (Scotland)
The Scottish Government has announced the launch of a new £18.8 million fund to help communities take local action to tackle the global threat of climate change. The Climate Challenge Fund will help empower communities to take action to reduce their carbon footprint and make a real difference to the local and national environment. The £18.8 million scheme is open to applications from organisations including voluntary sector, charities, schools, colleges, universities, local authorities and housing partnerships to fund projects which demonstrate a significant reduction in emissions. Low Carbon Buildings Programme - Phase 2 (UK)
The Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform has announced that it will be holding a series of workshops and seminars to help potential applicants access the Phase 2 of the Low Carbon Buildings Programme. Under this programme grants of up to £1 million are available to help organisations install renewable energy technologies. The programme can fund public sector organisations, including local authorities, schools, and hospitals, charities, community groups and housing associations. Grants are available for the instalation of the following energy efficient technologies; solar photovoltaics; solar thermal hot water; wind turbines; ground source heat pumps; automated wood pellet stoves; and wood fuelled boiler systems. Government Announces Additional Monies to Tackle Extremism (England & Wales)
The Government has announced that it will make available an additional £12.5 million in 2008/9 to help and support local authorities, schools, community groups and the police to tackle violent extremism and prevent radicalisation in communities. The additional funding is for projects specifically to support institutions or individuals vulnerable to radicalisation. New schemes will include; extending police-led multi agency projects to identify and support vulnerable individuals at risk of being targeted by violent extremists; new work to prevent violent extremism, focused on supporting young individuals who have had contact with the criminal justice system; funding further grassroots projects aimed at tackling radicalisation where it has already occurred; and further work in prisons and the community to tackle vulnerability to radicalisation amongst offenders.... http://www.homeoffice.gov.uk/about-us/news/millions-fight-extremism
